Thinking of celebrating your wedding Hawaiian style? Want more than just you and your bride or groom exchanging flower garlands to a recording of Elvis Presley crooning “The Hawaiian Wedding Song”, as guests dressed in assorted tropical prints and flip-flops look on?
As your “Kahu”(Officiant) Mobile Reverend brings to your "male 'ana" (wedding) ceremony a knowledge of Hawaiian Traditions and Rituals that will give your “ohana” (family) and “na hoa” (friends) a sense of truly having experienced the spirit of Aloha. What follows are just a few of the traditions Mobile Reverend offers couples wanting a Hawaiian Islands style wedding:
Sounding of the “Pu". Blowing the conch shell traditionally announces that something special is about to begin... Few thinkgs are as special as the joining of two people who love each other in marriage.
Exchange of Lei Aloha. Exchanged at the beginning of the ceremony with kiss on each cheek, the traditional Hawaiian flower lei carries the same symbolism as the wedding ring.
Na Hulu Mamo. Family is very important to Island culture and a bride and groom may decide to show love, gratitude and respect to parents by presenting them with leis. Those close family members who have joined the dearly departed can be honored in a simple
but moving ritual in which loved ones’ names are mentioned.
Ope’a. This is the Hawaiian form of hand fasting, in which traditional cordage such as raffia is used (Mobile Reverend also offers a strand of shells as an option). The “Blessing of the Hands” follows.
Rings Blessing. Koa Wood, Ti Leaf and Pacific Ocean Water – all deeply rooted in Hawaiian culture -- are the elements used in this ritual. As the rings are blessed, Mobile Reverend chants the traditional words “Ei-Ah Eha-No. Ka Malohia Oh-Na-Lani. Mea A-Ku A-Pau” to a melody which he composed
